Why should I participate in the Hazard Mitigation Plan update?

  • The Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies areas within McLean County that are particularly susceptible to the impact of natural and/or technological/human-causes hazards or have experienced a disaster in the past. While staff gets this information from national and state databases, data on smaller events, such as localized flooding, hail, and hazardous material events, may not be available. Therefore, your knowledge about events in your community is essential to documenting the hazards that the county faces.

  • The Hazard Mitigation Plan outlines strategies and projects to lessen the impact of natural and technology/human-caused disasters on people and property within the county. Your local knowledge is critical to crafting these strategies.
